BEAMLINE PROXIMA 1 [LATEST NEWS IS MARKED IN RED] : -
Sorry for the long delay - I had been avoiding bringing the web site prior to the new SOLEIL web site going on air.
The good news is that PROXIMA 1 is now in commissioning mode. First synchrotron light was observed around 1:30 am on the morning of 9th February - below is a picture of the beam measured using the fluorescence from a CVD diamond foil supplied by P. Bergonzo of the CEA. The beam has been delimited by the beamline primary slits. Beam current 53 mA and U20 gap 14mm.
The minutes of the last User liaison group meeting will appear on this site very shortly.
PROXIMA 1 U20 Undulator has now been installed in the storage ring.
Further bi-morph mirror characterisation has been done by Muriel Thomasset in the SOLEIL metrology lab. The measured slope error of the vertical focussing mirror is 0.8 μrad rms for an optimised elliptical curvature calculated to give a 100 µm vertical focus, and has an rms surface roughness of 2 Å. The mirror is obviously of excellent quality.
PROXIMA 1 monochromator assembled and testing begins.. Denis Duran will take the lead in vacuum assembly and testing, and Patrick Gourhant (with help from Dominique Corruble) is working on the motor control - a critical point in order to have the wavelength stability required for MAD measurements. Si (311) and Si (111) crystals have been delivered, and will be installed in the monochromator chamber this summer. Vacuum conditioning of the device is underway, with a vacuum of 8 x 10-8 already attained (offline with no beam).
PROXIMA 1 goniostat and sample changing robot delivered from CRYSTAL LOGIC and MSC/RIGAKU respectively. Equipment currently being tested. The link shows the equipment under test at SOLEIL with Patrick, John Garret of MSC RIGAKU and Frederic Maurisse of ELEXIENCE. Patrick and Majid are currently working on the TANGO software interface.
Monochromator cooling circuit - Closed circuit cryo-cooling based on a novel technology has been ordered. Delivery of the finished cooling circuit expected in May 2006.
A provisional engineering layout of beamline PROXIMA 1 (pdf file), due to be operational in summer 2006. This layout is currently being updated to give a precise position for optical elements.
Information on the proposed beamlines is currently available directly on the SOLEIL web site.
PUBLIC INFORMATION : -
Marie-Helene LeDu and Valerie Biou have produced a summary document about the possibilities of the life-sciences beamlines at SOLEIL from a crystallographers' view point (CD / WAX / SAX etc).
Minutes of the 3rd Bio-crystallography User liaison meeting held at SOLEIL on 15th December 2004.
Minutes of the 2nd SOLEIL / Bio-crystallography User Liaison meeting, 26th March 2004.
Minutes of the 1st Software / control working group meeting, 2nd February 2004.
Minutes of the 1st SOLEIL / Bio-crystallography User Liaison meeting, 19th September 2003.
Members of the SOLEIL / Bio-crystallography User Liaison committee. Comments should at present be passed to the committee via this group. Soon a bio-crystallography discussion group will be set up where all users will be able to express their views on the proposed beamlines.
Link to documentation of automatic data acquisition strategy and data analysis software - DNA. SOLEIL are now official collaborators in the DNA project. Extensive testing of the current DNA software has been made on ESRF beamline ID29.
